Overview

Insect Eco-Evo-Devo: integrating evolutionary ecology, development, and genetics to better understand how traits arise and diversify.

The way organisms develop and how they respond to and manipulate their environment has major effects on phenotypes visible to selection. Yet, we are only beginning to understand the intricate role of organismal development in ecology and evolution. Our group integrates concepts and approaches from evolutionary developmental biology, evolutionary ecology, and genetics to better understand how biological diversity arises and evolves. Focusing on insects, we are especially interested in how plasticity, developmental bias, and organism-environment interactions shape phenotypes and their evolution.
